Leongatha

Leongatha is a town in the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, South Gippsland Shire, Victoria, located 135 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. The town is the civic, commercial, industrial, religious, educational and sporting centre of the region. At the 2006 census, Leongatha had a population of only 4,504. The Mechanics' Institute now houses the Leongatha and District Historical Society but has had many prior uses, including housing the Municipal Library.
