Broadmount, situated in the Rockhampton Area near the mouth of the Fitzroy River, was intended to be a deepwater port for Rockhampton. The wharf in Broadmount was built without any actual access to it, an easy steal for the rival site nearby, where ships ported instead. The railway to Broadmount, from Nankin on the Yeppoon line, built in 1897, barely lasted thirty years before it was removed in 1929-1931.
