Bookham

Bookham is a tiny village nestled against the Hume Highway between Yass and Jugiong in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. Bookham was eventually by-passed by the Hume Highway about a decade ago. Therefore, besides Bookham’s 120 or so inhabitants, and the occasional retirees who have stopped for a break, the village has joined similar sites along the highway that have ‘disappeared’ from our awareness as we speed past. However, clearly visible from the highway is a large field full of old parts and cars as well as newer farm machinery. It was an early-morning glimpse of that field which inspired Isi Unikowski's poem, Harvester.
